Nevie (formerly “Pregnancy Safe Foods”) is made by Ankharis Ltd (United Kingdom).
Nevie has no accounts and never asks for your name, email address or location. Most of what you do in the app stays on your device. When you ask about a food that isn’t in the built-in library, or scan a product, the details needed to answer that question are sent to the services listed below — and nothing that identifies you goes with them.
Your baby’s due date, the dietary options you choose during setup, your search history, your language setting, how many free scans you have used, and cached food images. These are stored only on your iPhone and are removed when you delete the app.
When you search for a food that isn’t in the built-in library, the food name and your app language are sent through our server (hosted by Cloudflare) to OpenAI, which writes the answer. Our server passes the request on and does not keep it. OpenAI does not use data sent through its API to train its models and may keep it for up to 30 days to detect abuse (see the OpenAI Privacy Policy).
To make answers faster for everyone, a generated answer is saved in a shared database in Apple’s iCloud (CloudKit), keyed only by the food name and language. The food names people search for that aren’t in the library are also saved there, anonymously, so we know which foods to add next. Neither is linked to your Apple ID or to you.
Barcodes: the barcode number is sent to Open Food Facts, a free public product database, to look up the product name and ingredients.
Label photos: a photo you take or choose is reduced in size on your device and sent through our server to OpenAI to read the ingredients and give a verdict. Photos are never stored by us, and are not saved to the shared iCloud database. The camera is used only while the scanner is open, and only after you allow it.
Nevie sends a small number of anonymous events (for example “scanner used” or “upgrade screen shown”) to TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service, so we can see which features help people. Events use a random identifier created when you install the app — not your Apple ID or the advertising identifier — and contain no search text; where a search is counted, only a scrambled, one-way code of it is sent.
Premium subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. Ankharis Ltd never receives your payment details. The app only learns whether you have an active subscription, so it can unlock Premium. You can manage or cancel your subscription in Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions.
If you send feedback from the app, it arrives as a normal email from your address, including the food answer you were looking at. We use it only to reply to you and improve the app.
There is no advertising in Nevie. The app does not track you across other apps or websites, does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA), and does not show the App Tracking Transparency prompt.
Nevie gives general guidance, not medical advice. The app does not ask for or store health records; the due date and dietary options you enter stay on your device.
Because we don’t hold data that identifies you, there is usually nothing for us to find, export or delete. To remove everything Nevie keeps on your device, delete the app. If you have a question about your data under UK data protection law, contact us at the address below.
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new “last updated” date.
